Please note that Viola Heritage House Museum does not provide any adjustments or refunds on the day of arrival. All sales are final. However, if your group has fewer students than reserved, you will receive one child general admission ticket for each paid student who is not in attendance. Refunds will only be issued in the rare event that the museum is unable to accommodate your group and rescheduling is not possible.
Cancellations and Rescheduling
To make changes to your booking, including rescheduling, cancellations, or general questions, please contact the Education Coordinator at education@vhhm.org or call 713-364-5276. Attendance numbers can be modified up to one week prior to your visit.
Museum Etiquette
To ensure a safe environment for all visitors and protect the museum's collections, students and educators must follow these guidelines:
• Speak quietly and avoid loud noises inside the museum and historic homes.
• Keep safe from artifacts, furniture, photographs, and walls. Touching artifacts is allowed only in designated areas with a guide.
• Climbing on fences, buildings, or trees, walking in flower beds, or running inside the buildings is not allowed.
• Turn off your cell phone throughout all programming.
• Eating or drinking, as well as chewing gum or candy, is prohibited in any of the historic buildings.
• Photographs are allowed in approved areas with the flash-off.
• Recording of any kind is not allowed.
• Keep your hands and feet to yourself.
• Show respect to museum staff, volunteers, docents, and visitors. Do not talk when the guide is speaking.
• Dismissal from field trips must take place outside the museum. Students must be taken off museum property to be dismissed.
• A chaperone must accompany students at all times, including in the restrooms.
*Educators and chaperones are responsible for the behavior of their students during visits. The Viola Heritage House Museum reserves the right to ask any group that does not follow museum etiquette to leave without a refund.
Chaperones
We aim to offer an engaging and unforgettable learning adventure for everyone, including our chaperones. As a chaperone, you are responsible for the behavior and safety of your group during the entire visit. We appreciate your presence and request that you follow the guidelines below:
• Chaperones must be at least 21 years old.
• Always stay with your group, even when using the restroom or having lunch.
• Outside food and food delivery are not permitted. However, you can allow your group to bring sack lunches from school or home.
• Avoid having side conversations as they can distract from the program.
• Siblings are not allowed to accompany your group.
• Encourage students to follow the museum etiquette.
• Do not wander through the home, and refrain from touching or handling any items not in the program areas.
• Keep your cell phone silenced throughout all programming.
Thank you for participating with us! We hope that you and your group have a wonderful experience at the museum.
Inclement Weather and Late Arrival
In case of bad weather, the museum staff may need to reschedule your visit. We keep a close watch on weather reports and make the decision by noon the day before your scheduled field trip. For museum purposes, inclement weather is defined as severe or stormy weather conditions that can make traveling unsafe. Additionally, the water and mud can be undesirable in historic homes. If rescheduling is not an option, you will be refunded.
If your group arrives late for a guided program, the program will be shortened and will finish at the originally designated time. Guided programs will be canceled for groups that arrive 20 minutes or more late. Unfortunately, no refund will be given in this case.
